From Mokuleia to Honolua, these are the beaches of Maui's West Shore around Honolua. Read this "Star-Bulletin" article about beach safety in Hawaii.
Mokuleia Bay
North Coast: Kapalua to Kahalui, Maui, Hawaii. Mokuleia features superb bodysurfing, but during the winter months, the currents can be extremely hazardous and the surf rough. Hence, the beach's other name, "The Slaughterhouse."
Location :: Off of Honoapiilani Highway, north of Honokahua Bay.
Access :: Honoapiilani Highway.
Services :: None.
Notes :: As this entire area has been designated a Marine Life Conservation District, the waters here are home to a wide variety of exotic fish. Predictably, the snorkeling is fantastic.
Honolua Bay
North Coast: Kapalua to Kahalui, Maui, Hawaii. Like its nearby cousin Mokuleia, Honolua boasts good swimming, wonderful snorkeling, and excellent surfing.
Location :: Off of Honoapiilani Highway, north of Mokuleia Bay.
Access :: Honoapiillani Highway.
Services :: None.
Notes :: If you're just looking for a good view of the surfing action, drive a little farther along the road and park along the cliff where the road reaches the top.
