H.P. Baldwin Beach County Park

Paia vicinity, Maui, Hawaii. Though the beach is spacious, beautiful, and well-suited to swimming and winter surfing, H.P. Baldwin has acquired a bad reputation, with tourists being hassled and even robbed.

Location :: On Hana Highway, just past the Maui Country Club and the town of Sprecklesville.

Hookipa Beach County Park

Paia vicinity, Maui, Hawaii. The swimming isn't much to speak of, and killer currents make swimming advisable only on calm days. However, the same waves that are dangerous for the average recreational surfer, are paradise for the professional sailboarder, and Hookipa is widely regarded as one of the best sailboarding beaches in the entire state.

Location :: On Hana Highway, ten minutes outside of Paia.

Services :: Showers, restrooms, unofficial camping is popular.

Notes :: The Aloha Classic sailboarding competition is held here annualy in the fall. During the course of the competition, the world's very best sailboarders converge on Hookipa, seeking the $10,000 prize.
