Eastern Molokai is home to rugged mountains, including Kamakou, which, at 4,970 feet is the highest point on the mountain. The central region of the island is a plain, and a very fertile one indeed.
Perhaps Molokai's most famous feature is Father Damien's Hansen's disease center. Located in Molokai's central region, Kalaupapa served as a home for those outcast because of the crippling disease for many years.
