Lanai is called the Pineapple Island and is aptly named indeed. 98% of the island is owned by Castle & Cooke, the company behind Dole pinapple proucts. The remaining 2% is the property of the State of Hawaii.

Much of Lanai's arable land is devoted to pinapple farming, unquestionably the island's most profitable industry.

Lanai's only airport can be found in Lanai city.

The island of Lanai is tiny compared to its cousins. Only 3,000 people call the 141 square mile island home.

The famous Garden of the Gods is located on the northern portion and is home to one of the largest, and admittedly, strangest assortments of volcanic rock anywhere in the world. No explanation of their placement on the Pineapple island is given.

Lanai's highest point is atop the mountain Lanaihale, which, at 3370 feet (1027 meters) dominates views of the entire island.

Two world-class hotels can be found on Lanai. The first, Manele Bay Hotel, is located on the ocean. During their stay, tourists can relax and gaze out at the ocean from their hotel window, or spend time on the beach, engaging in all sorts of water sports.

The other, the Lodge at Koele, is located inland and offers a wide variety of activities including horseback riding and mountain biking.
