Petty Booka Shaka
Aloha KakahiakaThe shaka means "no cares," "thanks," a friendly smile. It's that hand sign you see around Hawaii. Real easy to do and nice to see. Just make a fist, stick out your thumb and your pinky finger. Then waggle it at your friend with a smile. There's the casual shaka, the oops-I'm-sorry-shaka, and the we-in-the-same-boat-shaka.
Petty Booka
Help me: I'm confused. I read a story in the Boston Globe about a ukelele-playing, hula-skirting female duo from Japan called Petty Booka. I figured, well, Japanese like Hawaii so it's a Japanese version of Hawaiian music, and yea, that's what it is. But it's also campy, kitschy, and downright weird. If you know what Petty Booka in Japan is all about, help me. Post a comment. official :: fan site
I have the sneaky suspicion that the name is a phoenetic coruption of "Betty Boop."

Cigarette lighters on airplanes are about to be snuffed out by the Transportation Security Administration or TSA. The rule goes into effect nation wide on April 14. fyi: Ok, it's no biggie, and remember you can always get a light in Hawaii. I'm sure you're hotel will be very happy to souvenier you as many as you want.
