Northeast Kauai (Hanalei to Wailua)

Fern Grotto - Many weddings are held here and it's accessible by a boat tour. It's at Wailua Marine State Park at the mouth of the Wailua River, just off Kuhio Highway. (Hwy. 56). - near Wailua, Kauai, Hawaii.

Hanalei Valley Overlook - This scenic overlook is on Highway 56. The site is marked with a Hawaiian warrior state marker. From here you can see Hanalei Valley and the National Wildlife Refuge - outside of Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii.

Ke`e Beach State Park - The beach offers great views of the Na Pali coast, and a short trail goes from the beach up to Lohiau's Hula Platform, a spot with great significance to Hawaiian culture. The offerings left here are for Laka, the goddess of the hula. - near Haena, Kauai, Hawaii.

Kilauea - This small town is now the prawn capital of the world, but be sure to check out the local guava and the lava rock church on Kolo Street. - Kilauea, Kauai, Hawaii.

Kilauea Light House - This retired lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark and has the largest clamshell lens in the world. - Kilauea, Kauai, Hawaii.

Limahuli Garden - Follow the trails through this garden to learn about Kauai's indigenous plants. - Haena, Kauai, Hawaii.

Lydgate Country Park - This seaside park is near the mouth of the Wailua River on the south side of Wailua. - Kauai, Hawaii.

Maniniholo Dry Cave - This cave is 75 yards deep and just across the road from tne entrance to Haena State Park. - Kauai, Hawaii.

Na Pali Coast and State Park - This is one of Hawaii's most spectacular hiking parks. There are easy short hikes and some serious backpacking routes overlooking valleys, beaches and waterfalls. - Kauai, Hawaii.

Opaeka`a Falls - Just a short ride from the boat dock, is Opaekaa Falls. This waterfall is located in a strange almost suburban setting, but it is still wonderfully beautiful. - Kauai, Hawaii.

Sleeping Giant - This stone formation might be the giant Puni. It's on Mount Nounou, a mile north of Wailua on Highway 56. - Wailua, Kauai, Hawaii.

Waikapala`e and Waikanaloa Caves - These twin caves are on the western end of Highway 56. Waikanaloa can be seen on the side of the road, and the other is a quick hike up the hill. - Haena, Kauai, Hawaii.

Wailua - The present town of Wailua was built at the site of the island's ancient capital. - Wailua, Kauai, Hawaii.

Wailua Falls - These are the waterfalls that were shown on tehe '70's TV show "Fantasy Island." - west of Wailua, Kauai, Hawaii.

Waioli Mission House - This New England style house was the home of Lucy and Abner Wilcox and toady is a local museum. - Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii.
