Kauai gets its name from the lush greenery that calls the island home.

Kauai's has an area of 548.7 square miles and is home to nearly 40,000 inhabitants.

Kapaa is the largest city on Kauai.

Kauai's only two airports can be found at Lihue and Princeville.

Kauai's highest point can be found at Kawaikiki Point located in the center of the circular island. It stands 5,170 feet (1,576-meter) and dominates views of the island.

Another major geological feature of Kauai is the 2,857 foot (871 meters) Waimea canyon. It has been likened to a second, miniature Grand Canyon.

Beautiful Barking Sands Beach can also be found on the island. This island is long, empty, and beautiful.

The northern coast of the island is quite rugged and inaccessable by vehicle, but offers some of the most fantastic views of the Pacific ocean to be found anywhere.

Kauai is home to the wettest spot on Earth. Mount Waialeale receives nearly 500 inches of rain each year!
