Explore the Big Island of Hawaii

Kohala :: The south Kohala coast is a spa for hedonist pleasure. The sunny and dry south coast is where you'll find the Big Island's finest resorts: the Mauna Kea, the Mauna Lani, the Hyatt Waikoloa and the Hilton. But Kohala's rugged northern peninsula is the birthplace of modern Hawaii and rich in cultural and historical treasures.

Hamakua Coast :: The Hamakua Coast is a rural, green, palm-fringed strip along Highway 19 (Hawaii Belt Rd.) on the Big Island's north coast, where ridges and valleys (gulches) alternate on their way to the sea. While sugar plantations dominated Hamakua's recent past, today Honokaa is called the macadamia nut capital of the world.

Hilo :: Hilo is Big Island's big town, the center of business and government, and the most populated. Hilo's local history meshes nicely with modern living, and the natural beauty of the Hawaii's north shore is all around in this very tropical town on the windward side of the Big Island.

Puna :: Puna is a diamond shaped section of Big Island wedged between Hilo and Volcano National Park at the northeastern tip of the island. Rural and agricultural, Puna is more "Old Hawaii" than a tourist area, but if you're looking for real Hawaii, a trip to Puna could open your eyes.

Volcano :: Kilauea is the Big Island's active volcano, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a unique experience. The Crater Rim Trail, the Chain of Craters, and the lava flows reveal the astounding forces simmering underground, and the US National Parks Service does a remarkable job providing accessibility and safety to visitors at the park.

South Point - Kau (Big Island) :: Big Island's southern tip is an open landscape of tall coastal grass, black sand beaches, and inland forests between the Volcano's fury and Kona's resorts, and stretches about 84 miles along the southern arc of Highway 11 (Hawaii Belt Rd.). Those who stop can explore a unique landscape of ocean, grass, sun, and wind. :: Pahala, Naalehu. :: Wood Valley Temple (Tibetian).

Kailua Kona :: Kona's fields of sun and lava flows are dotted with spectacular tourist oases, featuring night clubs, toney shops, and fine dining. Kona is a resort mecca for golf, sun worship, marlin fishing, and vacationing in style, and Kailua's Ali`i Drive is the hub of the Big Island's "Gold Coast."

Big Island Hotels, Resorts, Accomodations :: Research and reserve your hotel on the Big Island, using secure online connections. Choose from a wide selection of hotels, price ranges and packages.
